WHAT IS EUROTEC AND WHY DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMPETITIVE TUMBLED PAVER MARKETPLACE?
Compare The Cambridge Renaissance Collection crafted with EuroTec to other pavers that are “mechanically distressed” through inline chaining — a method of distressing where, as a result, the pavers all look alike. Homeowners and pavingstone contractors will recognize The Renaissance Collection’s distinctive look of aged, natural stone and insist on Cambridge.
The aesthetic and structural superiority that’s unmistakably
Cambridge is no accident. It is a result of 21st Century Cambridge Technology — a perfect relationship between man, material and modern technology. We call it EuroTec™.
In the development of the distinctive, distressed pavers in The Renaissance Collection, Cambridge craftsmen found inspiration from the artisans who, using natural stone, created beautiful village streets, charming courtyards and breathtaking piazzas during the European Renaissance. The sole dedication, teamwork and experience of our paver craftsmen is apparent in every phase — from product development through manufacturing.
EuroTec Mix — For our specially formulated concrete mix, our expert quarry partners choose fine sand and aggregates specifically for The Renaissance Collection. The resulting matrix is super-dense for durability, strength and beauty that rival natural stone. EuroTec Colors — The computer-programmed Cambridge Color System artfully mixes select pigments in exacting ratios to formulate shades found in natural stone.
EuroTec Aging — Our exclusive cylindrical tumbler has a specially developed, soft-coated liner. The process relies solely on natural techniques to position and gently toss the pavers. Distressing is accomplished only through the contact of one paver with another. As a result, every paver has different, natural characteristics. A tumbled, 8 inch long Bullnose has been added to complete the look when steps, pool coping and garden borders are needed (see Products & Tools). Our 4 x 8 Holland shape even has authentic watermarks found on old clay brick.
Cambridge Pavingstones from The Renaissance Collection crafted with EuroTec. The closer you look, the more natural they look. Be sure to explain the reasons why to your homeowner- and contractor- customers. (top)

Our new Cambridge brochure is full of large scale, creatively stimulating photography! I would like to personally thank the many professional contractors who worked closely with our marketing team to assure that the very best examples of projects featuring Cambridge Pavingstones are represented in the publication. The brochure is a portfolio of possibilities in the planning of pavements and landscaping for outdoor living spaces. Care was taken to show the most popular Cambridge Pavingstones shapes and colors in various applications along with our segmental wall systems and other finishing touches. A photo album on CD is forthcoming to accompany the brochure.
For contractors, our popular Project Planner software has been enhanced with new computer imaging capabilities.
To create a custom “before” and “after” presentation of ideas in virtual reality, users either import their own digital photo of a prospective customer’s existing pavement into the program or choose from an existing library of driveway, patio and pool images that has been provided. In seconds, a visual representation can be created showing the pavement replaced with any of the Cambridge Pavingstones shapes and colors. A great closing tool!
Do-It-Yourself Workshops and Contractor Clinics are being scheduled in record-setting numbers. More people are recognizing the value-added benefits of our advanced ArmorTec and EuroTec mix technologies.
As Chairman and CEO at Cambridge, nothing pleases me more than knowing our successful partnering programs are revolutionizing relationships between a manufacturer, distributors and contractors. (top) |

New SRW® SS5 Geotextile Landscape Fabric Soil Strengthener
Made from woven polypropylene fibers, this landscaping fabric is typically used as a base reinforcement for soil stabilization. When placed between compacted sub-base and quarry process base material, geotextile will help to prevent rutting, settling and pumping of the aggregate base into the sub-base on paver installations where poor soil exists.
Installation guidelines are printed on the product label. Cambridge Distributors will also appreciate the handy 6-Roll Display Carton. Roll sizes measure 121/2 ft. x 27 ft. and are folded for easy handling and storage. (top) |

New Cambridge ColorSweep™ Pigmented Joint Sand
Our new pigmented joint sand offers a simple and environmentally safe way to enhance the color scheme of new and existing pavement designs. Cambridge ColorSweep can be used in lieu of uncolored sand to fill the spaces between concrete pavers for final lock up and also as sand setting bed. It is also suitable for clay brick pavements. Available in Ruby, Chestnut and Onyx, a 50 lb. bag covers approximately 100 sq. ft. of pavement.
As the name suggests, Cambridge ColorSweep is swept over the joints until the spaces are filled. As with uncolored joint sand, compaction is required. The pigmented sand is colorfast and manufactured in accordance with industry standards. Cambridge ColorSweep can be used in conjunction with SandLock, a joint stabilizer from Cambridge, and is not affected by efflorescence removers. This great supplemental product will bring customers back year after year for seasonal landscaping upkeep. Ask about our Counter Display.
New 8 in. Bullnose With ArmorTec Or From The Renaissance Collection Crafted With EuroTec
Our shorter Bullnose will reduce installation time and increase profit for your contractor-customers. A tighter radius can be achieved with less or no cutting when creating pool coping and stair treads as well as caps on small walls. Our 12 in. Bullnose is still available with ArmorTec.
New Holland Without Spacer Bars & Chamfered Edges
Manufactured without the normal, built-in spacers and beveled top edges, our new additional 4 x 8 Holland provides a finished look anywhere that the sidewalls of pavers show such as steps, risers, landings, knee walls and facing. The Holland Without Spacer Bars & Chamfered Edges is also ideal when stacking pavers as you would bricks. See 2004 Cambridge Product Line Specifications under The Crusader Collection with ArmorTec for more details.(top)

Cut & Feather Technique For Driveway Overlays
Standard specifications for installing an interlocking pavingstone system over an existing asphalt or concrete driveway do not require a gravel base except where the driveway meets the street and/or garage apron. In these areas, a necessary amount of the existing material should be removed and replaced with a dense base of quarry process gravel that has been feathered to meet proper grade (3” minus at garage floor/3” minus at curb).
After ruts in the old asphalt or cracks in the old concrete have been filled with stone screenings, follow four simple steps to cut and feather points where the pavingstone system will meet the street, curb or apron. Signs of pumping areas in the asphalt should be addressed with standard vehicular base preparation. Here’s how to achieve proper butting and grade:
Step 1. Locate 3” point between a level string line and the existing pavement. See Illustration A.
Step 2. Cut and remove asphalt or concrete between the 3” mark and the garage apron and/or curb.
Step 3. Excavate to 11” minus and prepare 8” (two 4” lifts) of compacted DGA (dense graded base) of quarry process. See Illustrations B and C.
Step 4. Lay SRW® SS5 woven geotextile filter fabric over entire area of existing pavement and added base. The filter fabric will prevent the bedding sand from migrating into future cracks in the underlying asphalt or concrete. You are ready to complete the installation.
Place 1” of C-33 washed concrete leveling sand. Next, lay the pavers. 23/8” thick pavers are recommended for residential driveways. Set pavers
1/4” high before compaction for proper compacted finish grade. Compact the pavers into the leveling sand and secure edge restraints along the perimeters of the new pavement. See Illustration D.(top) |

New Cambridge Pyzique “Double-Sided” Segmental Wall Systems
Finished On Both Sides
The reversible, trapezoidal shape provides a beautiful stone finish on both sides and its own interlock to deter shifting. The front face is 11 inches wide and the back is 7 inches. The depth of the wall unit is 9 inches. Cambridge Pyzique Wall Units are offered in two styles: Split Face and Renaissance Tumbled/Distressed.
One Wall Unit Creates Wall, Corner & Cap
Cambridge Pyzique is ideal for freestanding walls, knee walls around patios and retaining walls up to 3 ft. high; tree rings and garden borders; raised patios; sitting walls; and steps… paver edging, too.
Straight and curved designs can be created without mortar. Build a vertically straight (90 degree) wall or use built-in grooves on the top of wall units for a 5/8 inch set back on courses. To make a square corner, simply split one wall unit in half, front to back through the middle. To make a capstone, just turn Pyzique units upside down. (top) |
